SEO is a long term process and usually, it takes pretty long to come up with the results. While some clients understand this, others become a bit impatient and really want to see the results quickly.
I have come up with some pretty cool tips which would take just a few hours to implement but you’ll certainly see the results in just a couple of weeks. So here we go:
1. Set up a page on Google Plus for your business
Is your client on Google Plus? If no, then it’s high time that you should create a page for them on Google Plus. It would not take more than 20 minutes and would ensure that you appear in the Google local searches and Google Maps.
2. Stand out in the search results with a good meta-title + description
As per a study by No Hat Digital, tweaking title tags improved the search traffic by as much as 47%! Come up with a good meta-title compared to your competitors. Use characters, numbers and make sure that you show exactly on the website what the Google user is looking for.
In this way, you increase the CTR and at the same time keep the bounce percentage low.
3. Optimize your existing content
It is a lot easier to have an existing page rise a few positions in the search results than a new one.
Most clicks go to the top 3 in Google and to search results on the 1 st page. Let’s say from position # 4 to # 15.
How do you find those pages? There are several ways:
Use Google Search Console. You can find the average position in Google here. Focus on the pages with positions 4 to 15;
- Look in the data from Google Analytics. In it you can search for pages that get a fair amount of visitors but have a high bounce rate;
- Find out which pages and which products are best converted on your website or webshop. It is always good to bring these pages even more to the attention.
- Also, check whether you may have too low or too high ‘keyword density’ on certain pages and use synonyms where possible.
Google is smart enough now to understand what your text is about
4. The inclusion of Long tail keywords
This one is my favorite. Why? It just takes 15-20 minutes to figure out such keywords and they often drive quality visitors to the site. These terms are often searched by the customers when they have a specific well-defined need and in most of the cases, this is the last stage of buying journey.
5. Install an XML sitemap
An XML sitemap is indeed the blueprint of a website. Google bots can crawl your site in a better fashion if you have a well laid XML sitemap. It shows URL links to where Google bots can find all pages and posts, how they are structured, and when they were last edited.
6.Fix links to 404 pages
This is a simple one, but it still happens that there are links left after a page or product has been removed. This way visitors and the search engines come on a 404 page.
Not desirable and easy to prevent.To find out if there are links on your website that refer to 404 pages, you can use Google Search Console.
7. Check images for alt tags
Chances are high that if your client isn’t using heading tags, then they would also not be assigning alt tags for their images either. When well-optimized heading and alt tags are connected with the same keywords, it gives Google a better idea of the keyword you’re trying to rank for and will place their page accordingly in the search. You don’t need to upload the images again; simply edit their alt tags – it doesn’t take too long.
“It’s surely possible to implement these tips in a single day. While some of these quick wins will have an instant impact, others will take a few days or weeks before you notice an increase in traffic, click-through rates, reduced bounce rates, or increased time spent on pages.
These are little things but when compounded together, it can surely have a huge impact on your client’s website.”
